The Green-Eyed Book, a poem

I came up with the idea for this while I was reading a book.

Don’t pretend I cannot see

Your two eyes drift away from me.

And don’t respond with more excuses

That you think will lead to truces

In this war.  You cannot win;

I’ve seen the way you look at him.

I’ve seen you hold him close and tight.

Your eyes light up with him at night.

I’ve seen you stroke his smooth, round sleeves.

I’ve heard you swoon each time he leaves!

Do not deny I can’t compare.

With me, I know you do not care

About the words I’d have to say

Regarding our impasse.

What is it that I lack to you?

What words doth he say ring more true

Than mine? Just take another look

And know that I’m no boring book.
